Mazel Tov, Pumpkins and The Godfather

It was a busy weekend ... Mr. ESPN and I attended our triplet (yes triplet boys) neighbor's bar mitzvah on Saturday (we have known them since they were about 4 and have lived next to them for the last 6 1/2 years).  The service was very sweet (all of the women were teary eyed listening to the sweet words by the boys and their parents) and the reception that evening was a lot of fun.  We got one picture before the service and my bra strap was showing so I am not posting it.  I forgot to take my camera to the reception - so no pics!  My neighbor took one of Mr. ESPN and I and it looked like the flash was reflecting off my boob!  Lovely - needless to say I am not posting that one either!  Lucky for us, the girls spent the entire day and overnight with Nana and Poppa so we were kid free!  WooHoo!!

On Sunday after we picked them up, we headed out to the pumpkin patch.  There were lots of fun things for the girls to do ...
Don't you just love Bia's face here?

After the pumpkin patch we headed over to see Uncle Greg who was in town for the weekend.  By this time the girls were WILD to say the least.  We tried to get them to slow down for a few minutes to snap a photo with Uncle Greg and this was as good as it got ...

I love Bia's smile in this one - so her!

Uncle Greg

My girls have three Uncle Gregs ... one is a relative and the other two are good friends. One of them is Chatty's Godfather. Godfather Uncle Greg has had a very difficult week, but when he found out Chatty had a soccer game yesterday, he insisted on coming. Mind you this was the day after his father's funeral. I was so glad he felt like coming and Chatty was super excited for him to see her play. He and I got to chat and pretend like things were pretty normal. We cheered Chatty on - no goals for her this week but she played hard and came close a couple times. Here are a few pictures of her (and Bia) and Godfather. Hey Coco - know any single ladies in the Austin area? He's single and a great catch - good job, great manners and he is friends with me! What's not to love! He would kill me for this post! Will post Halloween stuff later ....

Phone Calls and Friends

This is the post I didn't want to write but I knew it was coming. Godfather's (Chatty's Godfather) dad passed away yesterday. He called yesterday afternoon and told Mr. ESPN. All afternoon I kept thinking about things and feeling guilty that I hadn't talked to Godfather as much in the past few years. I used to be the one he called when something bad happened (i.e. when his mom was diagnosed with breast cancer - she is in remission now). We have laughed and cried over many things during our friendship. But lately (the last five years or so ... do you see the correlation? Chatty is 5 1/2 ) it's Mr. ESPN who listens to him and takes his calls and so many times I am relieved because I am in the midst of doing three different things (like most moms). But as I look back I feel guilty and know I should have stopped what I was doing and made time for some of those phone calls.

Last night I asked Mr. ESPN to call Godfather and check on him (because I was getting the girls ready for baths and bed) .. they spoke for a few minutes and then Mr. ESPN handed me the phone. Godfather and I finally had a chance to talk. He is doing well, is at peace with his father's death and knows it is God's will. That gives me so much comfort. We laughed a little and I cried a little (a lot to Mr. ESPN after I got off the phone). So later this week we will see him and his family at the services. I haven't seen his mom in several years, prior to that time she and I had lunch almost monthly (those of you who know me personally know the story behind this .. it is long and I am not going to go into it here). So needless to say it will be a bit awkward and I am nervous and sad.

I am going to try and make more time for those phone calls now ... from Godfather and my other friends and family too.

Blessings and Such

We received the news this weekend that one of our closest friend's dad has bone cancer (or at least that is what they think he has as of now). Such a hard thing to hear and my heart breaks for our friend. He is Chatty's godfather and already has had to deal with several illnesses with his parents including breast cancer and kidney transplant. Heartbreaking. I know a lot of people are dealing with medical issues right now and my heart breaks for them too. I also realize how fortunate I am and have been throughout my life. So I want to try and remember to do a little more thanking of God rather than complaining - because you know what - I am blessed beyond measure!

Speaking of Blessings - the girls, Mr. ESPN and I all had a wonderful time at Princess A's party. We went over early to chat and watch football (it is going to be a long/tough year for our Alma mater - but awesome win by my Seminoles!!). Bia didn't want to wear her costume at first but once we got it on her (and threatened a nap if she took it off - yes I am that kind of mom) she left it on.
Don't you just love Bia's grin?
The Birthday Girl - Princess A - such a cutey!

Bia right after she put the costume on -she wasn't too happy with Dad here!

Princess Chatty with her ghetto fabulous (I love that phrase) Dollar store crown!

Two sweet princesses - too bad Chatty wasn't looking at the camera!
