EASTER Recap

Wow what a weekend.  Easter seems to be a memorable holiday for our family ... let's see Chatty was born on Easter Sunday 2004 ... last year the girls lost their Easter baskets (i.e. they were taken away from them due to bad behavior) before we left for church ... this year the girls were behaving so badly I seriously didn't think the Easter Bunny would show up and so badly I put myself in time out on Saturday afternoon.  It improved Sunday morning ... the Easter Bunny left some goodies ....

And he hid some eggs full of candy and coins ....
Not sure why they aren't using their Easter baskets ...

And then an Easter miracle occurred on Sunday (in addition to the main one - He is Risen), the ESPN family got to church early (7:40 a.m.) and we were all smiling!  The girls behaved fairly well during church although it took sticker books, goldfish, fruit snacks and a post church donut bribe to keep them entertained.  Don't judge!

After church we tried to get some pictures - they had tons of Easter flowers which made for a nice backdrop ...
Someone wasn't too thrilled ..

An then a nice elderly lady in the congregation offered to take a family picture and this is what she captured:
She took two photos and chopped my face off in both of them.  Yes my face is on the pudgy side, but not so bad you couldn't fit us all in!  I didn't have the heart to tell her she chopped me off.  Oh well!  So when we got to Nana and Poppa's house we had them snap a family photo ...

When I put the girls to bed last night I asked them if they knew why we celebrated Easter ... Bia had no clue nor did she really care.  At least Chatty knew the story (she better since we have been studying it in Sunday school).  I guess 1 for 2 isn't bad.  We'll work with Bia this year so maybe we can be 2 for 2 next year!

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly aka Easter 2010

We had lots of activities this past weekend (what else is new?).  We also had lots of melt downs as evidenced here:

Why this melt down occurred?  Who knows - maybe because she is 3 and is just like her mom and wants everything HER way?  But low and behold she can snap out of it and be sweet as can be as evidenced here (which was taken approximately 10 minutes later):

Our church had an Easter egg hunt.  Nana and Poppa met us there with Chatty (she spent two lovely nights at their house and proceeded to go through detox the rest of the weekend - it wasn't pretty)

After the egg hunt it was time for cake - we Presbyterians like to eat at any and all social gatherings and we always seem to have sweets (sort of like my southern family)

Then after several meltdowns on the way home we decided to color Easter eggs (nice Christmas tablecloth huh?)

Note - I ate one of the eggs before we took the picture; Bia was obsessed with green

The Easter bunny brought a few little goodies for the girls but to be honest they both got in trouble before church and the baskets were put away for awhile.  I am telling you it was a painful round of detox and only one had gone to Nana's house.  Chatty told me before church she didn't want to live with me ever again and wanted to live with Nana.  Sadly to say we weren't in the Easter spirit on the way to church.

Once we got to church things seemed to turn around.  The Pastor said something in his sermon about seeing people in Jesus and I turned to Mr. ESPN and said I sure would like to see Jesus in Chatty today.  A couple minutes later she came over and kissed me out of the blue!  He sure works in mysterious ways!  Needless to say we finally got some nice Easter pictures (even if they are posed).

This picture is for Granny - she bought the girls their Easter purses

I was exhausted by the time this picture was taken ... we had FINALLY gotten a good one of the three of us!  And yes Mom - I wore black on Easter Sunday - I tried to find something to wear last week and didn't succeed and this was all I had in my closet.

This week I have to get ready for Chatty's birthday and the girls' joint birthday party.  Guess what that means?  Yep - decorating another cake and cupcakes!

Thursday Tidbits

  • If you go hiking in the springtime in the desert do not listen to Blaze of Glory (Bon Jovi) or Funny the Way it is (DMB).  Both of these songs have tambourine (I think it's tambourines) music that sounds a little like a rattler on a rattlesnake ... just sayin' it might freak you out a little, which can be a good thing because you will run/hike faster
  • PC is BS ... I was told to apply for an internal position by the hiring manager (and several other managers close to the position) and now I have to wait at least two weeks to see if I get the position ... I hate PC HR rules that require the role to be posted for a week and them dragging their feet - let's get a move on people, momma wants a new purse (and wallet - my reward to myself if I get the new position)!
  • I need want a Blackberry and I need to convince Mr. ESPN that I really do need it
  • My sweet little Bia is so much like me in the morning that it is scary.  She tends to be very cranky in the morning and wants everything done her way.  She also likes to change her mind about what she's wearing several times.  One way that she is NOT like me is that she insists on wearing outfits that don't match ... not sure where she gets that one from
  • Chatty is at my parents for two nights ... she was so excited.  My mom may have to turn her hearing aide off if Chatty lives up to her nickname
  • We will be hosting a session of grandparent detox for Chatty on Saturday afternoon for any interested parties
  • I am getting rid of my grey hairs (for a couple months anyway) tonight because unlike some blogs friends I have, I get my hair highlighted regularly, it is one of the many ways I keep the economy rockin', we all have to do our part
  • I saw this cool post about Easter cookies (scroll down the post a bit to see the full recipe with pictures).  If we have time Saturday afternoon I want to do it with the girls.  Not sure Bia will get much out of it but I think Chatty would.
